The origins of beadmaking in Ghana has been documented since the 1920s, but from archaeological finds, it is believed to have been an art very much earlier. Today, while now a major industry in Ghana, these exquisite, unique beads are still handmade by Ashanti and Krobo craftsmen and women. They still play an important part of the Krobo society being used for rituals of birth, coming of age, marriage and death.
